Deep in the Andes of the Northwest of Argentina, among large volcanoes, small Puna villages are hidden full of natural wonders to discover in each kilometer. A photographic adventure through stunning landscapes, rich in images and contrasts. Landscapes, Vicuñas, foxes and exotic birds will be our objectives to photograph. The Puna is covered with salt flats and monuments carved in volcanic rock in the heart of the Argentine Puna.
Places to visit: Salar de Arizaro, Cone of Arita, Tolar Grande, Los Colorados, Ojos de Mar, Salar Pocitos, San Antonio de los Cobres.

This is a photographic safari in the middle of one of the most spectacular landscapes of Argentina, the idea of this Photographic Expedition is to perfect photographic skills in a very changing geography, as well as the great diversity of wild animals. The idea is to learn to capture movement and light as we go, kilometer to kilometer. Dazzling geoforms and herds of Vicuñas, will see some Llamas and populations of pink flamingos (Parinas). Also meet and spend some time with the local people of the Puna and document their traditions in the heights of the Andean Altiplano. importante: itinerary can be modified if adverse weather conditions appear to be dangerous for the group.



ITINERY

Day 1 | SALTA - SAN ANTONIO DE LOS COBRES - TOLAR GRANDE
Total kilometers: 400 km.

Lodge: Monuntain Refuge-like AFAPUNA or Hotel Casa Andina

Description of the day: The early day starts from the city of Salta, at hs. 8:30, to take course via National Route 51 until our first photo stop: La Quebrada del Toro. We will continue for a first acclimatization break in the small hamlet of Santa Rosa de Tastil, where local artisans sell their Llama and Sheep wool handicrafts, as well as others made of onyx and alabaster stone. At noon we will be arriving at the town of San Antonio de los Cobres, an old mining town of copper and salt, where we will have lunch and taste typical dishes such as empanadas and llama al stew. Minutes of rest and acclimatization at 3700 meters, we will control the good health of the passengers to continue the journey that will take us to Salar de Pocitos and then to Tolar Grande, a total distance of 400km. Before reaching Tolar Grande we will visit the Colorados and 7 Curves, two of the geological monuments that this route has, where the landscape resembles the planet Mars, we will stop what is necessary to take pictures and rest. Dinner at Tolar Grande.


Day 2 | TOLAR GRANDE - CONO DE ARITA - TOLAR GRANDE
Total kilometers: 280 km.

Lodge: Monuntain Refuge-like AFAPUNA or Hotel Casa Andina

Description of the day: at 9AM after breakfast in Tolar, at 3500 meters above sea level, we will begin the day of exploration of the Andes, where we will pass through the old town that was born on the side of the Salar de Arizaro, to give way to the miners and caravaneros on their trip to the north of Chile, in time where meat was provided to that country, since it did not have the resources to generate them, so it was that muleteers from the Calchaqui Valley transported their animals on foot to the distant bordering horizon, taking Up to 2 months of walking under very adverse weather conditions. We can see remains of dead cows on the way. We will cross 80 kilometers on the Salar de Arizaro to reach the enigmatic Cone of Arita, a geoform eroded by the strong Andean winds, giving rise to what is known as the Piramida Argentina, the same size as those in Egypt, particular formation that is left admire from the edge of the salar. We return for lunch in Tolar Grande where we will take a break to continue with a Trekking to the Hidden Dunes, taking advantage of knowing the reddish formations that give it an almost extraterrestrial appearance. For the evening we will visit the Ojos de Mar and get some interesting shots of the mountain reflected in these small reservoirs of stromatolitic life. Dinner at Tolar Grande.


Day 3 | TOLAR GRANDE - POCITOS - SALTA
Total kilometers: 400 km.


Description of the day: at 9AM after breakfast in Tolar, we will return to Salta, again 400 kilometers but with different lights that will make the road something new to see, since the region changes color according to the orientation of the sun. We will return by the same road to have lunch in San Antonio de los Cobres and from there in 3 hours approximately we will be arriving at the hotel in Salta to enjoy a well deserved rest post trip. Dinner in Salta capital at your own.
